By l990 I was consistently using the Golden Ratio (ø) in my paintings.
In some of these works the purely geometric is harmonized with motifs
such as plants, windows and buildings. The stem lengths, the leaf
angles, all move--as a moth moves towards the light--in harmony with
the Golden Ratio principle. When developed to a certain level of
complexity, as in "Tree of Life", the geometric imagery emanates the
growing, living quality of nature. All elements of the composition
resonate with and "echo" the initial premise. The imagery can be
"read" both visually and numerically.
